Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Commission, it is our pleasure to invite you to attend the XXII International Symposium on Homogeneous Catalysis (XXII ISHC) to be held on 24-29 July 2022 in Lisbon, at Faculty of Sciences of the Universidade de Lisboa. It is a great honor for us to host this well established key conference on Homogeneous Catalysis for the first time in Portugal, and we should acknowledge the International Advisory Board members of ISHC for giving us this opportunity. We will do our best in order to achieve in Lisbon another memorable scientific event as the successful previous editions held biennially in Corpus Christi (1978), Dusseldorf, Milan, Leningrad, Kobe, Vancouver, Lyon, Amsterdam, Jerusalem, Princeton, St. Andrews, Stockholm, Tarragona, Munich, Sun City, Florence, Poznan, Toulouse, Ottawa, Kyoto and Amsterdam (2018), in chronological order.
All aspects of Homogeneous Catalysis, including metal complex catalysis, organo-, bio-, electro-, photo- and nanocatalysis, cooperative catalysis, heterogenized homogeneous catalysis, multiphase homogeneous catalysis, catalysis in unconventional media, noncovalent interactions in catalysis, mechanistic investigations, computational approaches, etc. will be highlighted in both already established and emerging fields.
The Conference venue is in a privileged position concerning travel requirements. Lisbon, voted as the "World´s Leading City Break Destination” and the “Europe´s Leading City Tourist Board” (World Travel Awards, 2020), is easily reachable from any place of the world, and the airport and the main train stations are located inside the town itself (this is a unique case within the European capitals). The Conference venue is also in the town and with close access to public transportation, including metro, e.g., from/to the airport.
Attention will also be paid to the social programme, providing opportunities for mixing, visits to cultural places and excursions to sites of unique natural beauty, and for tasting the typical Portuguese cuisine and … the inspiration of our wines from various demarcated regions!
We'll be most pleased to welcome you herein and we hope you will enjoy a pleasant time along all the Conference, from both scientific and social points of view.
Looking forward to meeting you in Lisbon,

Opening hours (provisional, to be confirmed according to the conference program):
The Scientific Program, within all the fields of Catalysis and related areas of other sciences, includes the following types of contributions: Plenary/Keynote (30 min) and other Invited Lectures (20 min), Oral communications (15 min), Flash oral presentations (5 min) and Posters. The indicated duration will eventually be subject to adjustments if required by the final Program.
All approaches will be considered, from fundamental to applied ones, including multi- and transdisciplinary studies, overcoming artificial boundaries.
The official language will be English.
In order to promote personal interactions and networking, traditionally the ISHC had followed the single-session format. To increase the number of presentations and opportunities, this year some parallel sessions are included in the program.
The oral program should concern appealing topics for presentation by independent researchers at all career levels.
This year the program includes also oral flash presentations associated to posters, promoting visibility for young researchers (including PhD students) together with experienced and senior ones.
Our poster sessions are legendary for their engagement, with participants at all career stages.
Abstract submission deadline extended to May 15th, 2022
Abstract submission is only possible via registration site. Please login using the password provided in the registration process and then proceed with "abstract submission". Please use the Microsoft Word file.
The Conference official language is English
The abstract must not exceed one A4 page. Final decision will be taken by the scientific committee upon evaluation of the submitted abstracts. The abstract file should be saved as follows: name_surname_poster.doc or name_surname_oral.doc (or docx in either case).
Posters in standard A0 size: 841 mm (width) x 1189 mm (height).
Each participant is entitled to submit a maximum of 2 Abstracts, provided they concern an oral communication plus a normal poster (without flash presentation).
Flash presentation concerns a brief oral presentation of a particular poster (hence, it should be associated to the corresponding poster).
Accepted abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts (only abstracts of registered participants will be included).
Please make sure your abstract does not contain any spelling or grammar mistakes, as it will be reproduced as submitted.
A meritorious and balanced scientific content and a balanced representation of researchers at all career stages, including young ones, are aimed. The final decision concerning the type of presentation should be issued after the deadline for abstracts submission.
Homogeneous catalysis plays a key role in synthetic chemistry, design of materials/drugs, industrial, and biological processes. Its progress is dependent on the appropriate design of catalysts and use of adequate strategies, from metal complex catalysis, through nanocatalysis, and on to biocatalysis.
The International Symposium on Homogeneous Catalysis (ISHC) series (initiated in 1978) has provided a fundamental contribution to the chemical community for the discussion of new trends in catalysis and exchange of ideas. This latest edition is scheduled for 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal.
We would very much like to invite you to contribute to our Virtual Collection which is held in collaboration with the journals of Chemistry Europe. This collection will cover all aspects of homogenous catalysis, and all participants of the XXII ISHC are welcome to contribute. All contributions must pass through rigorous Peer Review to be considered for acceptance*. Once accepted all papers submitted to the "International Symposium on Homogeneous Catalysis Virtual Collection" will be collected here for all to read and share. Around the time of the conference all papers will be available Free-to-Read.
* Accepted articles will be published throughout the year in regular issues and collected on the dedicated page. We have chosen this process of publication to limit the time that accepted authors should wait for their final page numbers and citation.
